This figure indicates that between February 2014 and February 2015, the PPI increased by 21. 8 per cent, representing a 1.8 percentage point decrease in producer inflation relative to the rate recorded January 2015.

Addressing a section of the media in Accra, the Government Statistician, Dr Philomena Nyarko, said the month-on –month change in producer price index between January and February was 1.4 percent.

However, she said the mining and quarrying sub-sector recorded a decrease by 7.1 percentage point over the January 2015 rate of 36.4 percent to record 29.3 percent in February 2015.

Dr Nyarko indicated that manufacturing which constituted more than two-thirds of total industry also decreased by 1.0 percentage point to record 21.6 percent.

For the month of February 2015, the utilities sub sector recorded an inflation rate of 15.7 percent, she added.

In the petroleum sub-sector, the rate declined to record -0.4 percent in February 2015. This was as a result of base drift effect and decrease in prices of petroleum products, she explained.
