Zoomlion Boss Urged To Provide Modern and Efficient Sanitation Modules

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the Executive Chairman, Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Siaw Agyapong, to remain focus in providing modern and most efficient sanitation modules to deal with sanitation issues confronting the nation while he deals with the controversies surrounding his business operations.

The President said, “when you are in the forefront of doing things, you are likely to be the subject of controversies” adding, “you are capable of handling the controversies, stay focused.”

President Akufo-Addo made these remarks when he visited the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP) to interact with Management and staff of the company, Chiefs and people of Adjen Kotoku in day two of his Greater Accra Region tour.

President Akufo-Addo Addo said the collaboration between the State and the Private sector in the delivery of public goods; especially in “the most important in any city- sanitation” was core to his administration.

He said his confidence in the Private sector- the Ghanaian business class and entrepreneurs- in the country's socio-economic transformation agenda was underpinned by the pro-business policy interventions carried out by his government.

“Coming to a facility like this justify to me the decision not to sit in the office but to go out and see what is going on” the President stated.

He asserted that “if you don’t have a modern and efficient way of dealing with waste disposal”, just like ACARP operations, in a city as Accra, the tendency is that the prevention of health related diseases would be compromised.

Dr Joseph Asiaw Agyepong, in his response, said, the visit to the integrated waste processing plant by the President was a strong indication of the commitment government attaches to employing science and technology as the most economic and efficient way to recycle urban waste.

He commended President Akufo-Addo for setting up the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to provide an oversight responsibility in the sector nationwide.

“You have also affirmed you stand to work during your tenure, towards achieving your vision of making Accra and its environs the cleanest city in Accra, Dr. Agyepong added, noting, Zoomlion has declared its readiness to partner all relevant government agencies to help achieve and sustain gains.

It will be recalled President Akufo-Addo, assuming office as President declared that “The commitment I want to make, and for all of us to make… Accra will be the cleanest city on the entire African continent. That is the commitment I am making.

ACARP Operations

ACARP operations have since July, 2012 helped to divert over half a million tons of municipal solid waste MSW from landfill sites for material recovery and reuse. Over 70 per cent of the recovered materials such as recyclables have been processed and made available to respective industries as semi-finished raw materials for production.

The ACARP, which has installed daily operating capacity of 600 metric tons, is a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the government to receive, sort and produce high quality organic compost from MSW for agricultural purposes in Ghana.
