His Excellency Abdulfatah A.K. Alsattari, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Ghana, has commended the Republic of Ghana for Ghana’s continuous solidarity with the State of Palestine.

Addressing a news conference in Accra, yesterday, H.E. Alsattari noted that Ghana was part of the128 member states who voted in favour of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution to reject US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

He said the State of Palestine was equally satisfied that Ghana was not present at the official opening of the new Embassy of the United States of America in Jerusalem, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition in December of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

He condemned the killings by Israeli forces of defenceless Palestinians engaged in a peaceful protest.

Ambassador Alsattari maintained that East Jerusalem remained the capital of the State of Palestine, adding that East Jerusalem was at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and that Palestine could not engage in peace talks with Israel without East Jerusalem as its capital.

In a statement, Mr Kwesi Pratt, a member of the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, commended the Government of Ghana for taking a principled position by the decision not to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Mr Pratt condemned the atrocities being committed against defenceless Palestinians, saying it was a gross violation of international law. He said there was no justification for the activities of the Israeli actions against the Palestinians as the Palestinians had the right to return to their homeland.

He said the struggle for a homeland was not different from the struggle against apartheid, adding that principles that were valid for one country should valid for all countries across the globe.

He, however, reminded the Government of Ghana that it had a bigger burden against all forms of colonialism and colonial occupation and  liberation from oppression.

Hon. Ras Mubarak, a member of the Palestinian Solidarity campaign, also expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for the positive steps it had taken over President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Mr Mubarak urged Israel to respect International law and Conventions.
