Newly Recruited ISD Staff undergo Orientation

A two-day orientation program has been held for fifteen newly recruited officers of the Information Services Department (ISD).

The new officers, who will be representing the department at the various Districts and Regional Offices across the country, are expected to provide accurate and timely information for government response.

In his address, the Acting Director of the Information Services Department, Mr Charles Wereko, said the new officers had joined the department at a critical time where resources were limited and there were a lot of avenues where information could be accessed, hence the need for them to put in their best for the growth of the ISD.

As information officers, they are expected to be abreast with information in the districts where they found themselves and work creatively to make the department relevant in today’s era of easy access to information, he added.

“Make yourselves visible and have a cordial working relationship with the District Chief Executives (DCE) and other members of staff to enhance your performance and total output.”

The Acting Director urged the officers to exhibit professionalism in their work and be apolitical in line with the Civil Service Code of Ethics.

Giving a presentation on a brief history of the department and its mission, the Deputy Director in charge Finance and Administration, Mr David Owusu-Amoah, indicated that the department exists to disseminate information on government policies and programs to the citizenry and to send feedback from the public to the government.

He said the ISD also post public relations officers to the various Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) and urged the officers to learn quickly as they would be expected to provide public relations support to various districts they would serve.

Mr Owusu-Amoah noted that information could be easily accessed today and therefore counselled the new officers to move away from the old method of information sharing to using innovative ways to sell government and market the districts.

Other Deputy Directors of the Department also took turns to share with the new officers what they needed to know about the various Divisions and Units of the ISD.
