Govt Commended for Supporting the Black Stars

The government has been commended for the support and encouragement it is giving to the National Football team, the Black Stars ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

A young Ghanaian footballer based in the United Kingdom, Germaine Oppong Agyemang Duah, who made the commendation, also applauded the government for providing the team with the necessary resources and motivation and urged the team to focus on teamwork and win the cup for the nation.

The players, management and technical body of the Black Stars had met President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of their departure to the United Arab Emirates to commence their preparation for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament that would be held from June 21 to July 19.

The President assured the team that the government would provide the desired support to enable it to succeed in the tournament.

"I am determined to give all the support the government can give to sustain you and give you the best opportunity to bring the cup home,” he said and assured the team he would personally travel to Egypt to watch their first match against Benin on June 25.

According to Mr Duah, President Akufo-Addo acted well when he convinced the Skipper, Asamoah Gyan, not to retire but continue to play with the team so they could win the 2019 African Cup, adding that most of the young talented footballers picked their inspiration from the Black Star General Captain as he has always played with passion.

The Footballer explained that many young players like him would want to understudy the experienced players to enable them to advance in their careers as well as be able to support the national football team.

He also commended the team's Coach, Kwesi Appiah, for the full list he has presented for his team, stating that with the blend of the new and old players, there is a good future for the national team.
