Adentan Municipal best farmer, Mr Gemli Lartevi, a Fulani, has emerged the Municipal best farmer for 2017.

The 45-year-old farmer took away a double door fridge, mattress, cutlasses, knapsack sprayer and an irrigation tube at the event.

The other award winners were Mr Halidu Abubakari of Trassaco, Mr Julius Hayes of Frafraha, Mrs Kafui AdwoaKlu of new Legon, Mr Victor Kware Tiase of Adentan, Ms Esther Danso Mireku, Joseph Nii Torgbor Obodai II, Mantse of Ogbojo and Mr David Mallet of Amrahia.

Addressing this year’s Farmers’ Day, which was on the theme: “Farming for Food and Jobs” at Adjiringanor in Accra on Friday, Hon. Daniel A. Nii-Noi Adumuah, Municipal Chief Executive, noted that due to the challenge of land scarcity, the fish and livestock sub-sectors were dear to the Adentan Municipal Assembly and the people.

Hon. Adumuah said plans were underway by the Assembly to engage residents and, more importantly, the youth in fish farming.

That notwithstanding, he said, under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, the focus would be on five (5) key crops namely, maize, rice, soybean, sorghum and vegetables to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in agriculture and the skilled sector.

He disclosed that Government would construct a 1000 metric tonne capacity warehouse in each district to provide handling and storage space for anticipated surpluses.
