EASTERN REGIONAL MINISTER CAUTIONS COMPANY

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour, has visited the Dedeso Holdings Incorporated (DHI), currently salvaging timber on the Volta Lake.

The factory has been designed to become Africa’s largest producer of environmentally friendly hardwood timber and charcoal from its sawmilling at Sedom Yiti.

The exclusive salvage concession would be the world’s largest, covering 350,000 hectares with 14 million (14) m3 of recoverable hardwood with an estimate value of three billion dollars.

Mr. Darfour urged the company, which has been roped into the One District, One Factory programme, to consult the secretariat for the needed support. He also advised the management to regularly pay the necessary taxes and the SSNIT contribution of its workers.

Mr. Nayon Bilijo, the Advisor to the company, stated that the DHI’s local operation company, Kete-Krachi Timber Recovery Limited operates a sawmilling facility.

With Triton Logging and Serengti as its technical partners, Mr. Bilijo projected that Dedeso would become Africa’s largest producer of environmentally friendly hardwood timber and charcoal from its sawmill at Sedom Yiti.

According to him, DHI has the requisite equipment and bathymetric expertise to salvage the timber in the Volta Lake as well as assist government in clearing and mapping a navigation channel to enable the Volta Lake to be part of the national transportation network.
