Regional Minister Pays visit to Sekyere Kumawu District A/R

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, has called for close collaboration between Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assemblies (MMDAs) and traditional authorities to speed up the pace of development in the region.

 He added that, for development to thrive in the country, it behooves on both MMDAs and chiefs to regard themselves as development partners. 

The Minister made the remark when he paid a courtesy call no the Kumawu Traditional Council as part of his one day working visit to Sekyere Kumawu District last Monday, Dr. Sarpong said the government recognizes the important role chiefs play in the running of the county’s affairs and therefore would consult them on issues affecting the country. 

He also asked Nananom to regard Hon. Samuel Asiamah, the District Chief Executive for the area as their own and offer him the needed support to speed up the development of the district and also appealed to Nananom to help resolve the impasse between the DCE and the Assembly Members. 

The Minister also advised the DCE to regularly interact with the traditional authorities in the district to know at first hand their concerns. On the Kumawu chieftaincy dispute the minister made a passionate appeal to the feuding factions to resolve their differences as early as possible. He said Kumawu deserved better and therefore the kingmakers of the traditional council should as quickly as possible install a new Omanhene.

The queen mother of the area, Nana Amponsah Serwaa II, on behalf of The Kumawu Traditional Council pledged its unflinching support for the DCE, Hon. Asiamah. Nana Serwaa II said since the DCE assumed office, he has been collaborating effectively with the traditional council. . 

She assured the minister that Kumawu will soon get Omanhene. The queen mother also appealed to the minister to liaise with urban roads to rehabilitate a bye pass road which links the zongo to Ahenbrono of the Kumawu Township.

On health, she called on the health authorities to intensify public education on the EBOLA and Cholera epidemics that are posing treats to humankind.

The Traditional Council used the occasion to call on the staff of the Assembly and the Assembly Members to support the DCE to initiate and execute development projects for the district. 

Nana Pepra, the Kontihene of the traditional area called on government to ensure that there was a proper boundary demarcation between Sekyere Kumawu and Sekyere Afram Plains. He however commended government for selecting Kumawu as one of the districts to benefit from the construction of District Hospitals.
