South Tongu District Assembly Supports Disability V/R

The South Tongu District Assembly has presented an amount of Nine Thousand Three Hundred and Eighty-five Ghana Cedis Twenty-nine (GH₵ 9,385.29) to People Living with Disability [PWLD] in the district at Sogakope.

The District Chief Executive, Samuel Mawuko Eworyi said despite the challenges facing the economy, the President, John Dramani Mahama had put in measures to ensure that PWLDs were adequately catered for.

According to him, the Assembly received a lot of applications from the public seeking support apart from PWLDs and was concerned that the amount of money that came to the Assembly could not satisfy everybody. He would, however, ensure that all were fairly dealt with including PWLDs.

Mr. Eworyi dispelled the rumours that the Disability Fund was being spent on other projects. He urged the PWLDs to regularly be in close contact with their executives for briefing on the fund.

The District Co-ordinating Director, Gumnaba Alhaji Asibi Azonko advised the beneficiaries to make good use of monies they received. ‘Use it for the purpose for which you stated in your applications,’ he stressed.

He revealed that structural changes were being carried out on public buildings to give easy accessibility to PWLDs and hoped it would be extended to the Assemblies for their benefit.

Moses Kakaw, the District Social Welfare Officer said the Assembly provided support to a number of PWLDs in the District with wheel chairs and other gargets and would continue to support them as and when the facilities were available.

He said the Department of Social Welfare would continue to give adequate attention to activities of PWLDs in the District.

The beneficiaries included students, traders and artisans.
