Interior Minister Visits Upper East Region

The Minister for Interior and Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Hon. Mark Owen Woyongo was in the Upper East Region for a two day working visit.

 Accompanying the Minister was Hon. Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Minister for Northern Region, overseeing the Upper East Region, the Deputy Regional Minister, Hon. Daniel A. Syme and the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Alhassan.

The Minister’s first visit was at the Police Staff Training School at Pwalugu where he interacted with men and women of the Police Service as well as had firsthand information on their training.  Hon. Woyongo afterwards had an interaction with the Regional Security commanders and the acting Minister for the Upper East Region, Hon. Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru. Hon. Muniru briefed the Interior Minister and the IGP on the Security situation in the region especially in Bawku were a few days ago some people assaulted and killed two people in the area. He added that 102 soldiers and 80 Police personnel have so far been deployed to the area to restore calm following the disturbances.


The Minister of Interior then proceeded to Bawku where he paid a courtesy call on the Bawku Naba and the elders of the Mumprusi tribe. At both courtesies the Hon. Minister reiterated that he had come to ascertain the situation on the ground following the recent disturbances that occurred in the area a few weeks ago. He pleaded that they should advice their subjects to refrain from such acts of violence so that peace would prevail in order to enable the people go about their activities in a peaceful atmosphere.

The Hon. Minister then proceeded to Missiga, a suburb of Bawku where he addressed the Custom Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) Immigration Officers and cautioned them to be vigilant at the boarder due to the incidence of Ebola in some counties in the West African the sub-region.

He reiterated that same message at the Paga boarder when he visited CEPS and Immigration officials to interact with them.

Hon. Woyongo also took time to visit the inmates of the Navrongo Central Prison as well as interacted with the prison officials.
