Catholic Church Organised A Two-Day Workshop On Peace Promotion In Bimbilla N/R

Catholic Church of Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Partnership- Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung (TEPPCON-KAS) Peace Promotion has organised a two-day workshop for selected groups of persons in the Nanumba North District.


In his welcome address, Rev. Fr. Joseph Sukpe, the Parish Priest of St.Joseph-Bimbilla, thanked participants for making time to attend the meeting and expressed his gratitude to TEPPCON-KAS and the District Chief Executive for the area for their positive support in coming to help building peace in Nanung.

Rev.Fr. Joseph Sukpe was not happy with the insecurity in Nanung, saying conflict had affected Northerners negatively. He therefore called on the people of Nanung to fight their common enemy ‘Poverty and low standard of education’ in the area.

In her introductory speech, Mrs. Alice Dongyiri, Kuuire TEPPCON_Partnership Co-ordinator says their team do not represent any political party but provide good atmosphere for people, these include; discussing issues on economic for development, providing portable water, schools and promoting agriculture, good governance, empowering women, promoting democratic and peace in the country. 

 “We are creating a generation without a leader, therefore we need peace in Nanung in order to see good development in the area,” she added.

The District Chief Executive for Nanumba North District, Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Abass, in his key note address, thanked the organisers and sponsors for such a wonderful workshop. He said the theme for the workshop “Sustaining Peace through Mediation in Northern Ghana” was an appropriate since Bimbilla Chieftaincy case in court could not yield any better out for the area.

Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Abass mentioned that conflict in Northern Ghana had negative effect on government. Adding that, the resources that should have gone into development for the district had been channeled to peace keeping in Bimbilla.

The DCE therefore urged the people to channel their conflict resolution through mediation for smooth peace to be sustained in the area.

The Very Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Kuusah took participants though Dynamics and Causes of Conflict, Conflict Analysis-tools, Mediation Theory, Mediation-process and practice and Mediation role play.

He also made the participants to practice stages of mediation, these included; Introduction stage, Story telling stage, problem solving stage, Agreement stage and Follow up.
