Atebubuman Foryaw Yam Festival Launched BA/R

This year’s annual “Foryaw” yam festival of the chiefs and people of the Atebubu traditional area has been launched at a colorful ceremony in Atebubu.

 

This year’s celebration coincides with the 41st anniversary of the enstoolment of Nana Owusu Akyeaw Brempong II the Omanhene of the traditional area.

According to the chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Nana Osei Gyan Ababio, the objective was to raise funds for the construction of a modern palace and the completion of a nurses quarters project, hence the theme for the celebration “For sustainable economic development of Atebubu traditional area”. He thanked the African Plantations for Sustainable Development (APSD) for supporting the celebration with GH₵ 10.000.00

Nana Owusu Akyeaw Brempong II spoke about strides made by the traditional area during his reign which included the provision of a modern market, better access to water, healthcare and education and asked all to rally behind him to enable him champion the course of the area.

The Atebubu-Amantin District Chief Executive, Mr. Sampson Owusu Boateng, on behalf of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama congratulated the Omanhene on his forty-one years of ascending the throne.

He assured Nana Akyeaw Brempong of the intention of the President to honor an invitation to the festival.

On behalf of President Mahama, the DCE donated assorted drinks, a sheep and an undisclosed amount of money to the Omanhene.

Nana Owusu Achiaw, the ‘Ntotoyehene’ of the Mampong traditional area who chaired the function donated bags of cement, iron rods, chippings and roofing sheets all valued at GH₵ 20.000.00 towards the projects targeted by the planning committee.

The festival which begins on the 20th of this month will involve a musical concert, pageant, cooking competition, sporting activities and a thanksgiving service. The highlight of activities will be a grand durbar of chiefs and people on Thursday the 23rd, expected to be addressed by the President.

Royal Television is the main broadcast partner while Guinness Ghana Breweries; cowbell and Onga cubes are offering various sponsorships.
