The Minister for Finance, Hon. Seth Terkper, on behalf of Ghana signed a €31.6 million grant from the EU today, Monday, 22nd February, 2016. The European Union’s (EU) Grant of €31.6 million is for the implementation of “Ghana Employment and Social Protection Programme (GESP). The programme was formulated by the Ministry of Finance and the EU and would be implemented within five (5) years.
The overall objective of the programme is to contribute to inclusive and equitable growth by improving decent employment opportunities for the vulnerable population groups and enhancing social population services in line with the country’s objectives outlined in the Ghana Shared Growth & Development Agenda (GSGDA).
Mr William Hanna, EU Ambassador in Ghana, who signed on behalf of the EU, underscored the programme’s importance in its main focus on people, providing new opportunities; business development for Small and Medium scale Enterprises as well as ensuring protection for the most vulnerable.
