Veep Charges Youth To Remain Focus

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has charged the youth to remain focused and to avail themselves of the great possibilities ahead of them.


He also called for the mentoring of the youth to enable them develop their potential in leadership and contribute to national development.


Vice President Amissah-Arthur gave the advice when he launched the ONEHOPE International “Equip Lead Today” Youth Leadership Programme at the Tema Secondary School.


The “Equip Lead Today” which is a Christian handbook for youth leadership development is to help the youth maximise their potential.


A survey by ONEHOPE in 44 countries including Ghana indicated there was lack of direction among the youth which was worrying. Late President Atta-Mills therefore charged ONEHOPE to develop life skills programme to equip the youth with skills to help transform their lives.


Vice President Amissah-Arthur said the 2010 Population Census indicated that the youth were in the majority and as such were an important part of the country’s future. He said government still cherished its partnership with ONEHOPE International which has contributed to the wellbeing of the people, promotion of global peace and progress.


He commended ONEHOPE International for distributing 12 million books of hope and discipleship as well as sponsoring many programmes in schools and churches across the country. Vice President Amissah-Arthur also stated that the launch of the ONEHOPE leadership programme was in fulfillment of the promise the organisation made to late President Mills.


He said ONEHOPE leadership development plan has been specially designed for the youth to “Catch them young before they are led astray”. He also praised ONEHOPE for working in Ghana as a development partner for the past 14 years, demonstrating its commitment and dedication to the welfare of the youth of the country.


Mrs Nicole Johansson, Vice President of ONEHOPE stated that “Equip Lead Today” programme had been design to teach the next generation of the youth principles that would make them people of influence. She said the programme had also been planned to meet a growing need around the world for Biblically based leadership training in churches and schools.


She said after completing the ONEHOPE leadership programme the participants would be able to identify the qualities of great leader. Mrs Johansson said through leadership programme, over 12 million youth and adolescents have received God’s word and Christian materials from ONEHOPE.


Later, Vice President Amissah-Arthur took time to inspect an uncompleted girls’ dormitory block which has been in the school for some time now. He promised to ensure that the project would be complete this time round so that the girls could use it.
